REVISION PODCAST EPISODE
August 31st, 2015
"To cap off the month, I’m talking with full-stack designer Denise Nicole Francis. Her journey into the world of the Web by way of architecture and fashion design might sound a little odd, but she’s picked up some serious skills along the way, including studying under design great Massimo Vignelli!
We talked about the work she’s doing at General Assembly, discussed some of her design inspirations, and she shared how she ended up as creative director for a Grammy Award-winning artist! Denise’s positive attitude and sunny outlook on life is definitely an inspiration. Big thanks to Jarrett Coger for the introduction!" - MAURICE CHERRY (REVISION PATH)
“What impressed me most about Denise is that she took a considerable amount of time at the beginning of the project to understand our current audience and the audience we are attempting to target. She was great at understanding our target market and what the messaging needed to be. She may be ‘entry-level’ but she is tremendous. She is an excellent designer that understands how important and powerful her role is when it comes to the overall user experience.”
Alex Rhodeen, COO, Kanga
“Denise was one of the strongest students in my course. She comes from a great background in Graphic Design and has a tremendous portfolio. She accurately describes herself as a ‘full-stack designer’ because she thrives on the full spectrum: making both beautiful designs and exceptional user experiences.”
JD Jordan, User Experience Immersive Instructor, General Assembly

Denise Nicole Francis is an Atlanta based Full Stack UX Designer with a background in Visual Design and Architecture. Her experiences gained from working in various environments with other creatives, have equipped her to perform most typical daily design requirements from her home studio or in most office settings.
She is known for contributing aesthetically pleasing and functional design to the world which is inspired by interacting with people. Francis claims that a good portion of her successes attribute keeping people at the heart of [her] designs. Her interests include most things designed, anything creative, and an obsession with her imagination. She is also inspired by her experiences from her Caribbean upbringing as well as all things dunked in good ethical reason.
Because design is important to all elements of life, Francis finds it mandatory to subscribe to the details of how information is understood and how humans move through experiences. Designing for social awareness gives the life of a designer balance and is important to her design philosophy. She loves to travel, meet new people, and is activated by adventure.
Francis also enjoys taking pictures and eating exotic fruits, cheeses, olives, and chocolates to stimulate the creative process. “I believe in chaos to balance order. I believe in truth as a vehicle for freedom. I believe in kindness as the path for change and innovation as a result of attention to the human condition.” Francis hopes to continue to contribute to the world of design by devoting creativity, imagination, and innovative passion to the universe.
One of Francis’ favorite quotes comes from the late, great Massimo Vignelli, “The life of a designer is a life of fight. Fight against the ugliness. Just like a doctor fights against disease. For us, the visual disease is what we have around, and what we try to do is cure it somehow with design.”
